Biography

Jordan Young, known to many as DJ Swivel, is a Toronto-born, Grammy-winning producer, mixer and songwriter. He began his musical career in 2005 in New York City, under the mentorship of Duro, a well established mixer, producer and CEO of Desert Storm Records (Fabolous, DJ Clue). With Duro’s tutelage, Swivel began working with a wide variety of artists including Jay-Z, Diddy, Pharrell, Britney Spears, and Fabolous, eventually recording and mixing the latters albums ‘From Nothin To Something’, and ‘Loso’s Way’.

In 2010, Swivel went on to work with Beyoncé, recording and mixing her album ‘4’, which won a Grammy in 2012 for Best Traditional R&B Performance for the song ‘Love On Top’, and worked on part of her follow up self titled album, Beyoncé. In 2014 he founded Headliner Magazine, a music-driven publication, and shortly thereafter SKIO Music, a marketplace connecting buyers and sellers of music content enabling legal remixing at scale by simplifying the licensing process and making deals more transparent.

In 2015 he began working with The Chainsmokers, first as a mixer on the Roses EP, followed by mixing and production work on their follow up EP titled Collage. Collage spawned the hits ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ for which he won a Grammy for 2017’s Best Dance Recording, and Closer, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks and broke countless records along the way.

In 2017 he began working with K-Pop superstars BTS, helping write, produce, and mix songs on their Love Yourself and Map Of The Soul series of albums. These albums have gone on to breaks sales records around the globe, and have been the first group since The Beatles to have 3 number one albums on The Billboard 200 albums chart in a year.

Credits: 2 Grammy Nominations / 1 Grammy win. Worked on multiple Grammy nominated and winning projects. Worked with artists such as The Chainsmokers, Beyoncé, JAY Z, Rihanna, Coldplay, BTS and more. As mixer/producer sold over 100 million albums and singles.

PROCESS

01
Creative Discussion
The first step in getting your song sounding like a hit is to understand who you are as an artist, and what you’re looking for. Our initial creative discussion will set the tone of how I finish your record.
02
File Delivery
You’ll need to upload your audio assets using a file transfer delivery service such as Dropbox, WeTransfer, or HighTail. I accept Pro Tools sessions, or more typically audio stems. For a more detailed explanation of how I prefer to receive audio assets, please click below.
03
Production/Mix
Now that I’ve got all of your data, I’ll begin my creative process. The delivery time will vary depending on the work being done, with mixes being delivered in as little as 24 hours. We’ll have that discussion early so there won’t be any surprises for you.
04
Revisions
I encourage clients to listen to the song in as many environments as possible. The more detailed your notes the better (timing, track names, etc). Typically we’ll go through 1-3 rounds of changes, though I don’t charge extra for additional revisions. My job is to make sure you’re 100% pleased with the final result.
05
Approval
Once approved I’ll print the necessary mix passes you’ll need for mastering. This usually means a Main, Instrumental, Acapella, and TV (mix minus lead vocal). I’ll also deliver any other data to satisfy label or artist requirements such as mix stems, pro tools session, or customized mix passes.

PHILOSOPHY

It’s a bit of an unpopular opinion in the producer/engineer world, but I’ve never been much of a gear-head. Instead, I like to call myself an ear-head. We use gear, simply as a tool to achieve what our ears and brains tell us. It’s all about taste. I’ve always preferred working in the box because it streamlines my entire workflow, and allows me to focus solely on the creative. A byproduct of this is I’ve become very mobile, often working in hotel rooms and even on airplanes when I’m traveling. If you request a change, don’t be surprised if you get it back in 10 minutes. For over 10 years I’ve been utilizing this mobile workflow, and every record you’ve ever heard from me whether it’s a Grammy Award-winning hit, or a brand new artists first release, they’re all finished in the same manner. When you hire DJ Swivel, you’re hiring me for my taste, my vision, and my expertise, and I look forward to working on your project next!
